NYC Department of Education – Adult Education

Tuition-free classes for students ages 21+ who don’t have a high school diploma. Offers morning, afternoon, and evening classes in all 5 boroughs in: Adult Basic Education (lower levels of reading/math), High School Equivalency Preparation (help getting GED), Career and Technical Education (help joining workforce), and English for Speakers of Other Languages.

Can call or email NYC Adult Education department to learn how to enroll patient in classes.

New York State Adult Career and Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR)

Vocational training and planning for people ages 14+ who have a disability and want help getting a job. Client gets assigned a counselor who helps them develop a plan for employment, and they enroll in free trainings for specific vocations. See list of vocational training services here.

Have patient watch the 3 orientation recordings linked here to determine if ACCES-VR is the right fit for them.

 

Fill out the ACCESS-VR application, and submit it along with the items listed  here under “Documentation Needed for Eligibility Determination”. Follow instructions about how to submit via email.

Exponents

Offers GED prep classes, professional development classes (resume writing, job searching, interviewing, etc.), and a computer lab.

Help patient schedule a meeting with an Exponents counselor to help them get enrolled in classes.

Offers financial counseling, benefits counseling, professional development counseling, vocational training, employment counseling

Help patient figure out which service they need - see BronxWorks Jobs-Plus Program, Community Service Workforce Development Program, Tax and Financial Assistance, Benefits Assistance. Contact Program Director for service of interest to get patient enrolled.
